What is a domain name?

 

A domain name is a texted based representation of an IP address.

 

For example, my company’s website address is www.RenoWebDesigner.com.

 

'RenoWebDesigner' is assigned to a string of numbers or (IP address) that directs search engines and users (people who click and read your website pages) to your website home online.

 

An IP address is your websites address on the web, much like the street address for your business.

 

Using a domain name instead of your IP or Company Address makes it a lot easier for customers to remember your business name. Could you imagine handing out your websites IP address every time a customer wanted more information about your products & services? Yikes!

net — Network > Internet Provider / Services / Technology.

co — Colombia Country Code TLD / Company / Corporation.

us — United States Country Code TLD.

The best domain name extensions are .com, .net and .org.

They are the most common used domain extensions and make it more memorable for your customers to remember your website address.

Using catchy domain name extensions like .biz, .me, .seo are cool and can help you stand out, but in my experience can be a challenge to rank online with SEO services.

Pick a domain name that represents your legal business name. Also register a few more domain names that you can use in marketing materials.

For example, I own several hundred domain names. I use different domain names in PPC ads and social media ads.
